On Saturday, I delivered this cake to a little girl for her first birthday at her very own crawfish boil party. The cake is sour cream vanilla with vanilla buttercream and tinted vanilla fondant. The crawfish, potato and corn were each hand modeled out of gumpaste, and the camp cup is a Rice Krispie treat covered in vanilla fondant. Happy Birthday!

Hope everyone has had a fantastic Memorial Day weekend… To cap it off, the final cake of the weekend is for my friend Elisabeth, who is turning 25 today. The cake is red velvet, filled with three layers of cream cheese icing and topped in cream cheese icing and vanilla fondant. The pink design is all done in vanilla fondant. Happy birthday, Elisabeth!
Here is the 2nd of three cakes for this weekend… this one is for the sister of another Wicked Cakes recipient (Painter Birthday Cake), and it was inspired by the adorable invitations for her swim party. Happy Birthday!
It’s graduation season! I’ve got several graduation cakes in the works over the next few weeks… and here is the first! This cake is celebrating a Longhorn graduation - it’s a rustic carrot cake filled and iced in cream cheese buttercream. It’s also covered in a thin layer of vanilla fondant and decorated with custom Longhorn-themed fondant accents. Congratulations!
BOB FM is doing a fabulous promotion of the Broadway hit Wicked, coming to Austin August 12th-30th at the Bass Concert Hall! Winners of the BOB FM contest will win free tickets to the show, as well as a custom cake designed by Wicked Cakes… we’ve provided certificates for three custom cakes for the contest!
Happy Monday! This weekend’s project was tons of fun and a little tongue-in-cheek… My dear friend’s boyfriend’s birthday is today, and she requested a cake that celebrates his vegetarian (and a little hippie) lifestyle. The cake itself is my first vegan cake - it’s fudgy chocolate. The filling, alas, is not fully vegan (still looking for some great recipes), but it is a vegetarian tangy raspberry buttercream. The cake is iced in vanilla fondant, which is hand-painted to resemble tie-dye. The little veggie characters on top are all sugar paste, and probably my favorite part.
My boyfriend and I are hosting a little shindig at hour house this evening… clearly an event that requires cupcakes. I wanted to try some new recipes, so I ended up with three different types of cupcakes, and way more of them than could possibly be eaten by our small group of friends.
Cupcake #1 is a traditional southern red velvet, topped with a creamy coconut cream cheese frosting.
Cupcake #2 is a rustic carrot cake with big slices of carrot and chopped walnut, topped in cream cheese frosting.
Cupcake #3 was an experiment that I’m pretty excited about… I had some un-iced vanilla cupcakes lying around, and I decided to make a tart raspberry buttercream to go on top - yum!
Here’s the latest cake - an 11th-birthday cake for a daughter of one of my colleagues… I actually made two versions of this cake (long story including a moment of panic and not much sleep that night…) - one iced in fondant, and one iced buttercream. The cake is sour cream vanilla with vanilla buttercream filling. It’s decorated in loads of little gumpaste dots to match the party invitations.
