Finally, a cake for a guy! This latest creation is for a young man named Jack, who’s turning 17 this week. To honor his love for the game, I made a football-shaped yellow cake filled with dark chocolate buttercream and iced in chocolate fondant, sitting on a field of green fondant. Happy birthday!

This post goes out to my friend Jenn, who happens to have a serious addiction to all things peanut butter. In particular, desserts that involve both peanut butter and chocolate. So, since tonight was a baking night for an upcoming birthday cake, I figured I’d throw some cupcakes in the oven and top them with a yummy peanut butter buttercream. Since I was already at it, I also topped a few of them with classic vanilla buttercream.
I am so, so excited to share this latest cake with everyone… It’s a bridal shower cake inspired by the shower invitations and meant to look very much like a wedding cake. It’s two tiers - one vanilla, one chocolate, each filled with vanilla buttercream and iced in vanilla fondant. It’s decorated in a damask pattern with royal icing and accented with hand-made sugar flower and the bride’s new monogram.
What a lovely Sunday morning here in Austin… This weekend has been fabulous… lots of cake-making fun, and I was able to spend several hours on the website yesterday making some upgrades. As you can see, Wicked Cakes has gotten a major facelift with a nifty flash gallery on the home page and some new content. There’s lots more to come (think: galleries!), but I have to step away from the laptop for a few hours or I’ll go nuts. Check out the updated site - would love to hear your thoughts/comments!
Happy Saturday morning! I’ve got another girlie birthday cake this week! This one is for a little girl named Lisle who is turning 5… Her Hello Kitty themed birthday party clearly called for custom Hello Kitty birthday cake, so voila! It’s a two-tier chocolate cake with pink vanilla buttercream filling. The pink icing is vanilla fondant, and the decorations are done in fondant and gum paste.
What a fun project! This sculpted teapot cake is for the daughter of one of my colleagues… she is a sweet little lady that loves all things tea! For her birthday cake , I did a sculpted teapot, “table”, and mini cake teacup all for the birthday girl. The cake was yellow with cream cheese filling, and it was iced/decorated in purple and pink fondant. The structural pieces (handles, spouts, etc.) were done in gum paste. Happy birthday!
Happy Easter! I had a great weekend of friends, family, and baking… hope you did, too! I did two projects this weekend, one which I’ll post on now, one for later. The first was an experiment in a new technique for me… big, beautiful gum paste flowers. This little pink cake has white gum paste polka dots and a single, handmade ivory bloom. It was a great learning experience - I’m looking forward to doing more handmade sugar flowers on upcoming projects!
