I can’t tell you how excited I was to design this cake! The design is is five tiers, inspired by the lovely centerpiece arrangements created by Michelle at the Silver Vase. Each tier was covered in pearly white or teal fondant and accented with brown satin ribbon. My favorite part of the design is the cascade of delicate, handmade sugar orchids.

Monday, June 8th, 2009This week’s latest project was a bridal shower cake that I completed for a party on Saturday… It’s a chocolate “cookies and cream” cake that’s done in the open gift box style (both the bottom and top of the box are made from cake). It’s covered in Tiffany-blue vanilla fondant and decorated with gumpaste accents, including a hand-modeled Tweety bird holding an engagement ring made entirely from sugar.
Wedding-Style Damask Shower Cake
Sunday, April 26th, 2009I am so, so excited to share this latest cake with everyone… It’s a bridal shower cake inspired by the shower invitations and meant to look very much like a wedding cake. It’s two tiers - one vanilla, one chocolate, each filled with vanilla buttercream and iced in vanilla fondant. It’s decorated in a damask pattern with royal icing and accented with hand-made sugar flower and the bride’s new monogram.
A Birthday Tea Party
Wednesday, April 15th, 2009What a fun project! This sculpted teapot cake is for the daughter of one of my colleagues… she is a sweet little lady that loves all things tea! For her birthday cake , I did a sculpted teapot, “table”, and mini cake teacup all for the birthday girl. The cake was yellow with cream cheese filling, and it was iced/decorated in purple and pink fondant. The structural pieces (handles, spouts, etc.) were done in gum paste. Happy birthday!
Polka Dots & Flowers
Sunday, April 12th, 2009Happy Easter! I had a great weekend of friends, family, and baking… hope you did, too!
I did two projects this weekend, one which I’ll post on now, one for later. The first was an experiment in a new technique for me… big, beautiful gum paste flowers. This little pink cake has white gum paste polka dots and a single, handmade ivory bloom. It was a great learning experience - I’m looking forward to doing more handmade sugar flowers on upcoming projects!
