Over the weekend, I created this little swirly design over the weekend… it’s decorated in vanilla fondant and accented with piped royal icing dots.

As you all know, I’m building up a new collection of wedding cakes to serve as the photographic inspiration for the new Wicked Cakes website, launching later this year. Here is the latest in the collection - a fall-themed 5-tier square wedding cake with delicate paper butterflies and satin ribbon accents. Hope you like it!
Okay, I fully intended to keep these pics under wraps until the new site goes up, but I can’t wait! These are just a few sneak peeks of the new photographs being shot for the Wicked Cakes website by my dear friend Whitney of Whitney Lee Photography here in Austin. I’m doing a full update to the site later this year, and Whitney’s photography of my cakes will take center stage. Hope you like them! I’m in love with Whitney’s photos - check out more of her work at whitneyleephotography.com.
I am so, so excited to share this latest cake with everyone… It’s a bridal shower cake inspired by the shower invitations and meant to look very much like a wedding cake. It’s two tiers - one vanilla, one chocolate, each filled with vanilla buttercream and iced in vanilla fondant. It’s decorated in a damask pattern with royal icing and accented with hand-made sugar flower and the bride’s new monogram.
Happy Easter! I had a great weekend of friends, family, and baking… hope you did, too! I did two projects this weekend, one which I’ll post on now, one for later. The first was an experiment in a new technique for me… big, beautiful gum paste flowers. This little pink cake has white gum paste polka dots and a single, handmade ivory bloom. It was a great learning experience - I’m looking forward to doing more handmade sugar flowers on upcoming projects!
The awards ceremony for this year’s competition was held today , and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place medals were awarded in each divisional category. I had two cakes entered in the Adult Beginner Tiered Wedding Cake category, and to be honest, I wasn’t expecting anything. Given some of the beautiful cakes in my division, I figured this year would just be a learning experience. Imagine my surprise when I not only placed, but I actually took the gold medal in my division! It was a great validation of the hours of work put into the competition cakes. :) Woohoo! Next year, I’ll technically still be in the beginner category… already making plans!
